The railways are going to earn two way profit soon. Installing LCD TVs in the highly profitable luxury train, Shatabdi Express will earn extra revenue of 1.5 crores to the railway every year. Railways will not have to spare a single penny for this Direct to Home (DTH) service nor will the passengers be charged for the service. Bhopal Shatabdi is one of the five trains which will be receiving this facility.
According to the sources, this on board facility is based on 70 % screening and 30 % advertisement. Railways will earn 1 % revenue through this. This will provide revenue of 1.5 crores every year to the Railways. For this, Railways has entered an agreement with two companies namely Meghdoot Private Limited and Media on Track.
Railways has maid arrangements to launch this onboard DTH service in the economic and executive class of Bhopal Shatabdi. These onboard TVs will be installed on the back sides of the seats. These 9-inch TVs will display clear pictures and the passengers will be able to surf the channels through a TV console. This is the first experiment to install onboard TVs on a train.
